As the son of parents from Northern Ireland, Congressman Crowley has been a staunch supporter and committed friend of a united Ireland and its people. As a member of the influential Committee on International Relations and Europe Subcommittee, Congressman Crowley has actively pursued legislation that he hopes will promote peace and prosperity throughout Ireland and its neighboring regions.

    Northern Ireland Peace Process

  • As a Co-chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Irish Affairs, Congressman Crowley has participated in and closely followed the Northern Ireland Peace Process.
  • Congressman Crowley has participated in meeting with the leaders of the major parties in Northern Ireland including Gerry Adams, Seamus Mallon, John Hume, and David Trimble.
  • Helped remove Gerry Adams from TSA "Security Watch List".

    Promoting Stronger Economic Ties Between the United States and Ireland


  • Congressman Crowley co-sponsored a bill that authorizes the President to enter into a free-trade agreement with both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
    Honoring the Irish Hunger Strikers

  • Congressman Crowley co-sponsored a bill that calls for the recognition of the historical significance of the sacrifices made by the Irish Republican hunger strikers of 1981, and the subsequent political impact of their actions on the Northern Ireland peace process.
  • This resolution also recognizes the female prisoners of Armagh, who expressed their unwavering commitment to the Republican cause, even though they were forbidden to strike.

    Standing Up for Human Rights

  • The Congressman condemns the brutal murder of Rosemary Nelson, a human rights lawyer that valiantly fought for the rights of her Catholic clients, in spite of the death threats made by the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
  • This incident sparked legislation passed by Congressman Crowley recognizing the significance of the Good Friday Peace Accords, condemning all violence committed in violation of the Northern Ireland cease-fire, and calling on the government of the United Kingdom to expedite the investigation.
    International Fund for Ireland

  • The International Fund for Ireland (IFI) was established to promote social and economic advancement, and to encourage dialogue and reconciliation in both the North and the Republic of Ireland
  • Congressman Crowley's request was funded at $108 million. in the Foreign Operations Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2006.

    Project Children

  • Project Children successfully attempts to promote peace in Ireland by bringing students from both sides of the sectarian divide on the island of Ireland to the United States to allow these children to learn in an atmosphere where peace and cooperation are of paramount importance.
  • Not only does the Congressman support this program by signing legislation, but has employed program members in his office.
  • Congressman Crowley was successful in obtaining funding in the amount of $250,000 for this important project.
