Veteran's

"Americans owe an incredible debt to our many veterans, the people most integral in making our country what it has become. In Congress, I am fighting to provide them with the best possible treatment, through ensuring they receive adequate housing, employment opportunities, and healthcare coverage."
Ensuring Veterans' Access to Health Care Facilities

  • Won a promise from the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs that the 4 New York City VA hospitals Ð St Albans (Queens), Bronx VAMC, Manhattan Harbor Hospital, and Brooklyn Ð will remain open, operating and accepting new patients for the long term
  • Successfully persuaded the VA to open a Veterans' Outpatient Health Clinic in Sunnyside, at 41-03 Queens Boulevard, and then secured into law a bill to rename this Clinic after the late Lance Corporal Thomas P. Noonan, Jr.

  • Keeping Veterans' Health Care Costs Down

  • Worked with Congressional Democrats to successfully increase the Federal investment in veterans' health care by over $1.5 billion
  • Opposes the Bush Administration's annual call for an enrollment fee of $250 a year for category 7 and 8 veterans, who make as little as $26,902 a year, to use the VA medical facilities
  • Opposes the Bush Administration's annual request to double the co-payment for veteransÕ prescription drugs from $8 to $15

  • Protecting Veterans' Financial Security

  • Passed legislation into law to protect veterans Ð and all Americans Ð who have their identity stolen, as was the case with up to 27 million veterans in the spring of 2006.
  • This law allows people to order a free annual credit report Ð a document that details your credit history, such as your record of bill paying, debts, and credit card accounts Ð as well as put a flag on your credit report so as to monitor any suspicious activities.
  • Held numerous veterans' town halls to highlight key issues, such as ensuring veterans are receiving the full VA pensions for which they are eligible. (To find out if you are receiving the full pension to which you are entitled to, please click on "About Veterans' Pensions"
