Vice Chair Crowley Statement on Proposed Horse Carriage Legislation

Feb 1, 2016 Issues: Economy and Jobs, In the Community

(Queens, NY) – Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, released the following statement on the horse carriage legislation being proposed in the New York City Council:

“New York City is facing some very important issues, but horse carriages are not one of them. That is why I am opposed to the bill currently awaiting consideration by the New York City Council. The horse carriage industry provides good jobs to hard-working New Yorkers. I have met with the operators - many of whom live in my district – and these are men and women who aren’t just in it for a job or a paycheck. They love what they do and they love their horses. While the bill before the City Council is clearly an attempt at a compromise, I don’t believe we should be jeopardizing these jobs or the future of the industry.”

Congressman Crowley is the nine-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives.
