Apply to a Military Service Academy
As a Member of Congress, I serve as a liaison between my constituents and federal government agencies. I also have a detailed knowledge of local and state government as a former member of the New York State Assembly and I can help resolve difficulties with local and state agencies. Please feel free to contact my district offices if I may be of any assistance.

There are five service academies in the United States that offer young men and women a free college education at a highly-ranked, nationally-recognized academic institution while preparing them for an officer's commission in the armed forces: the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy. While the first four all require a nomination from an authorized nominating source, the Coast Guard Academy is the only armed forces service academy that offers appointments on the basis of an annual nationwide competition and does not require a Congressional nomination.
Acceptance to one of the academies involves at least a nine year obligation to the Service with four years at the Academy and five years in the Service.
Nominations in the 7th District are competitive. Therefore, candidates are encouraged to apply through all available sources. These include United States Senators Schumer and Clinton, Vice President Cheney, and the Branch of Service itself, if the applicant is the child of a deceased or a disabled veteran.
