Press Release

(Queens, NY) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) issued the following statement on the executive order signed by Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló raising the minimum wage for construction workers on public works projects to $15 an hour:

“With this order, thousands of construction workers in Puerto Rico will now be able to earn a living wage, giving them greater financial stability and the opportunity to better provide for their families. A strong construction industry is critical to Puerto Rico’s recovery and long-term economic future. This order will go a long way in attracting the economic development the island needs, as well as attracting the skilled workforce necessary to rebuild Puerto Rico. I applaud Governor Rosselló, the Laborers’ International Union of North America, and all those who pushed for this change. There’s no question it will have a significant impact on the lives of many of Puerto Rico’s working families.”
