Chairman Crowley Hosts 15th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration at New York Botanical Garden

(Bronx, N.Y.) – Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) was joined today by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to commemorate Women’s History Month at the New York Botanical Garden.

Leader Pelosi delivered the keynote address during the annual event, which brings Queens and Bronx residents together to recognize the achievements of women and discuss the role lawmakers play in fostering gender equality.

“I’m honored to host this important event to celebrate the contributions of women in Queens, the Bronx, and the United States,” said Chairman Crowley. “As one of the most accomplished political leaders in American history and the first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi has built a foundation for the next generation of women. I deeply appreciate Leader Pelosi joining us today to share her wisdom and vision for the future.”

“It was a privilege to join Chairman Crowley and so many other visionary leaders to honor the trailblazing women of the Empire State,” said Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. “During Women’s History Month, as we celebrate women’s progress, we must redouble our efforts to unleash the full power of women in our economy, in our society and in our democracy. Together, let us all reaffirm this vital truth: that women deserve a seat at the table – at the head of the table.”

Chairman Crowley also recognized three community leaders for their extraordinary contributions to Queens and the Bronx. This year’s honorees included: Beverly Roberts, NAACP Parkchester Branch CEO; Meridith Maskara, Girl Scouts of Greater New York CEO; and Narbada Chhetri, Adhikaar Director of Organizing and Advocacy.

Attendees were treated to musical tributes performed by students from Preston High School in Throggs Neck and the High School of Arts and Business in Corona. New York Botanical Garden Director JV Cossaboom opened the program.

Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson, and former NYC Councilman Jimmy Vacca joined Chairman Crowley at the event.

Women’s History Month is celebrated nationwide during the month of March. A champion of women’s rights in both the U.S. and abroad, Chairman Crowley has hosted an annual celebration event every year since 2004.
