Chairman Crowley Statement on the 79th Anniversary of Kristallnacht

Nov 9, 2017

(Washington, D.C.) –  Today, on the 79th anniversary of Kristallnacht, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY), issued the following statement reaffirming his commitment to combatting anti-Semitism, discrimination, and hatred:

“Today we honor the memories of the 6 million men, women, and children whose lives were stolen because of the bigotry, hatred, and anti-Semitism of the Nazi regime.

“Kristallnacht was a horrific part of the effort by the Nazi regime to eliminate the Jewish people from the face of the earth.

“This day is a time to recommit ourselves to ensuring genocide and atrocities never are allowed to happen again. Unfortunately, the fight against anti-Semitism and hate is far from over. Anti-Semitic crimes have been steadily increasing throughout the last year and have spiked since the beginning of 2017.

“We must consistently condemn violence and threats against the Jewish community and any individual because of their race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity."
