Press Release

(Washington, D.C.) – House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office confirmed that insurance premiums could increase by 20 percent and that Americans living in rural communities could lose access to affordable care if President Trump follows through with threats to cut off funding for cost sharing reduction payments, which were established by law:

“The latest CBO report shows how misguided, poorly-contrived, and punishing the GOP’s approach to health care is for American families. The analysis makes clear that President Trump and congressional Republicans want the Affordable Care Act to fail. Their latest gambit - to threaten the existence of a policy that helps working men and women afford insurance – would have a brutal impact on Americans’ health and pocketbooks. It is time for Republicans to abandon their cynical, political approach to health care and instead work with Democrats to improve access to affordable and quality care.”
