Congressman Crowley Honors Corona Senior of the Year
Crowley Celebrates National Older Americans Month with Corona Seniors
(Corona, NY) – On Friday, May 31, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) presented a congressional citation to Hector Quiroz in recognition of his dedicated service to the seniors at the Raíces Corona Senior Center in Corona, Queens. The award was given on the occasion of National Older Americans Month, which encourages the country to pay tribute to seniors for their contributions to our communities. Every president since John F. Kennedy has issued a formal proclamation to honor our nation's seniors during the month of May.
“Hector has demonstrated an unbridled passion for helping others in his community and we are grateful for his service,” said Rep. Crowley. “During National Older Americans Month, and throughout the entire year, it is important that we recognize the vital role that seniors continue play in our society.”
Mr. Quiroz, a native of Colombia, was selected by the center as Senior of the Year for volunteering his free time to help with maintenance work, member assistance and ongoing programming.
The Raíces Corona Senior Center provides their members with case management, information on benefits and programming that encourages a positive and healthy living. The center’s dedicated staff provides culturally competent services in both English and Spanish.
Congressman Crowley is the eight-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives.
