Congressman Crowley Statement on the Passing of Ambassador Richard Holbrooke

Dec 14, 2010

Washington, D.C.Today, Congressman Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued the statement below on the passing of Ambassador Richard Holbrooke:

“I am deeply saddened by the news of Ambassador Holbrooke’s passing. He was an accomplished and talented diplomat, committed to a lasting peace in countless areas of the world. From his early days as a young Foreign Service officer up to the moment of his passing, Richard fought tirelessly for the greater good of American foreign policy and the world. For Richard, U.S. foreign policy wasn’t an end in itself, but a means to lift up the downtrodden, heal the sick, bring comfort to the terrorized and establish justice where tyranny prevailed.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Richard’s family and friends and I join the international community in mourning the loss of one of the world’s finest and most principled diplomats.”

Congressman Crowley is the six-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
