(Queens, N.Y.) – Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) took his fight to protect Medicare and Social Security to seniors at the Self Help Big Six Towers NORC (Naturally Occurring Retiring Community) in Woodside.

Crowley, a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, which oversees Medicare and Social Security, expressed his commitment to fighting Republican attempts to end Medicare as we know it and privatize Social Security.

By providing guaranteed, affordable health care and economic stability to our nation’s seniors, Medicare and Social Security are two commitments that absolutely must be kept. Yet, at a time when we should be focused on strengthening Medicare and Social Security, Republicans are trying to dismantle these critical programs,” said Rep. Crowley. “We must do all we can to uphold the promise of Medicare and Social Security for today’s seniors as well as for future generations. I will continue to stand on the side of seniors in Queens and throughout the country.”

Congressman Crowley is the seven-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as a Chief Deputy Whip in the House of Representatives.
