Washington, D.C. —Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) released the following statement congratulating the people of Bangladesh on their 38th anniversary of independence:

“I heartily congratulate the citizens of Bangladesh on the 38th anniversary of their nation’s independence.  On this day of celebration, I applaud the people of Bangladesh for their commitment to democratic principles shown by the recent elections.  Elections are just the beginning; I urge the government to continue to fight against corruption so the Bangladeshi people can live in a society governed by laws.

“I believe strongly in the importance of a close relationship between the U.S. and Bangladesh.  I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to support Bangladesh as it strengthens and prospers in the 21st Century.”
