Crowley Statement on December Jobs Report
(Washington, D.C.) –Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement on the Department of Labor’s December jobs report:
“December’s jobs report is another sign that our economy continues to improve. The addition of 240,000 private sector jobs, marking the 58th consecutive month of growth, and a fall in the unemployment rate to 5.6%, the lowest rate since June 2008, are welcome news. However, far more needs to be done to ensure these improvements are benefiting all Americans, at every level of the economic scale.
“Congress must step up to the plate and act on legislation that will create jobs and encourage an atmosphere of economic growth, such as reauthorizing the Build America Bonds Act to repair our aging infrastructure and put Americans back to work, and raising the minimum wage to help workers make ends meet.
“With a new Congress comes new opportunity. I urge my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to join with House Democrats and enact an agenda that creates jobs, boosts paychecks, strengthens our economy, and puts American families first.”
Congressman Crowley is the nine-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives.
